Mnemonica DCP KDMs

Modified on Sat, 28 Feb at 7:10 PM

Mnemonica includes a fully integrated KDM management system that lets distributors and exhibitors handle the entire key delivery workflow directly within the platform — from uploading master keys to generating and distributing device-specific KDMs to cinema projectors.

The system is built around two modules that work in sequence: Managers first upload a DKDM (Distribution KDM) for each encrypted DCP, which authorizes the platform to generate keys. From there, any authorized user can create a KDM delivery — selecting the content, the target projector certificates, and the validity window — and send it directly to a recipient.

A role-based approval workflow ensures that sensitive key deliveries always go through the right channels: Managers can issue KDMs directly, while Power Guests and Guests submit requests that a Manager reviews before the key is generated.

New to KDM management? Start with the DKDM Management guide to make sure your content is ready, then move on to KDM Distribution to create your first delivery.

How the two modules relate

DKDMs and KDMs operate in a clear upstream-to-downstream sequence. A DKDM is a master key provided by the content provider and held by the distributor — it never leaves the platform and is never sent to cinemas. It simply authorizes Mnemonica to derive device-specific KDMs from it. Each KDM is then generated for a specific projector certificate and a specific validity window, and delivered to the recipient cinema.

In practical terms: if a CPL does not appear in the KDM creation wizard, it almost always means the DKDM has not yet been uploaded for that asset. Always verify DKDM availability before starting a KDM delivery.
