In this article, we will provide some good advice on how to protect your digital life and your devices. This is not only about Mnemonica. This is about your presence on the net as a consumer. Following these simple guidelines will help you to raise the correct barriers around your data.

Protecting your digital life

Cyber attacks are commonplace. Very often, they exploit unwitting users. In our time, it is of paramount importance to be aware of some basic aspects of cybersecurity. Anyone who owns an account of any kind needs to protect it. Just follow a few simple guidelines to make your digital environment a safe place.

  • Protect your credentials: username and password must be strictly personal. Each OS provides an encrypted wallet to store access keys. Protecting it, will protect all your accounts. Possibly use an automatic password generator. In this way, you won't have to remember all your passwords but only the wallet's one (which we suggest printing and keep in a safe place). The best way to protect your accounts is to ignore their credentials.
  • Don't share your credentials: technology may be difficult at times, but all of the most common and premium services offer the ability, even to those less familiar, to use all of the protection tools on their own. If you need help, do the procedures with someone you trust, but never leave your credentials in the hands of others.
  • Protect your computer user account: Current operating systems give you the ability to create personal accounts. Accounts are the main gateway and contain all of the user's information and data. Accounts must be protected with all available systems: strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, biometric data, remote access control.
  • Synchronize your devices: use the same users (Apple ID or Google ID) on all your devices. Having multiple accounts enlarges the attack surface. Plus, the encrypted wallet will work seamlessly among devices, making access to your services easy and secure.
  • Be aware of thieves: don't click on unknown links or attachments received by texts, messaging apps, or emails. Use antivirus and anti-malware apps to enforce your device security. Don't visit an untrusted site, don't install untrusted apps.
  • Read carefully on-screen messages: good digital services always warn the users when something is going on with their accounts. Your security depends on your awareness. When you deal with precious data, keep your eyes wide open.

Protecting your smartphone

Your smartphone is a key to Mnemonica. Protecting it at the most is crucial. Please find here some advice to protect it from intrusions and leaks.

  • Update your device OS and applications
  • Lock your phone with a secret PIN code
  • Adopt biometric protection like Touch ID, Face ID, or the equivalent on Androids
  • Enable multi-factor authentication on the device OS and apps.
  • Keep your mobile phone number private
  • Backup your data (on the cloud or locally)
  • Don't jailbreak your phone
  • Stay away from public charging stations; use backup batteries.
  • Stay away from public Wi-fi networks.

(...)When you are proactive about putting proper safety precautions in place, you can rest assured that you have taken every measure within your power to safeguard personal and sensitive data from cyberattacks. This makes it much less likely that thieves will be able to steal your identity, delve into your personal life, siphon off your money, control your phone, and generally make your life miserable.
