Works and Deliveries

About Works

A Work keeps all the files of one film or one TV show in an Archive Project: its Versions, the Packages in each Version, and their assets.

You keep a library of finished titles: films, TV shows, their masters, DCPs, trailers, stills and documents. You need one place for each title, where every file is easy to find and every team member sees the same thing. In an Archive Project, that place is a Work. One Work is one film or one TV show.

How a Work is organised

A Work has four levels. Each level answers one question about a file.

  1. Work: which title is it? The Work keeps the metadata of the title: director, cast, year, genres, synopsis and poster.
  2. Version: which cut of the title is it? For example the original version, the director's cut or a censored version. Each Version has its own metadata.
  3. Package: what kind of delivery item is it? A Package is a named folder with a type, such as DCP, IMF, Audio or Document. You cannot save a file directly in a Version: it always goes in a Package.
  4. Folders and assets: the files themselves, organised in folders and subfolders inside the Package.

Every Version also has a Gallery Package. Mnemonica makes a streaming proxy of each video, audio and image file in it and shows it on the Gallery page of the Project.

The Works page

To open it, click Works in the bottom bar of an Archive Project. The list shows each Work with its poster, Name, Size, Production Year and Date. Click a Work to see its poster, director and synopsis in the Inspector on the right. Double-click a Work to open it.

The toolbar above the list has these controls:

  • The add button (+): create a Work.
  • Copy selected and Paste into a new Work: duplicate a Work. See Copy and Paste.
  • Search and Toggle Advanced Filters: find a Work by its metadata or by the Packages it contains.

The options button (⋮) of a Work opens Copy, Add to Shelf..., Details and Delete. Details opens the Work settings, where you edit the metadata of the Work.

Who can do what

What you can do in Works depends on your role in the Project:

  • Managers and Operators see every Work. They create and delete Works, Versions and Packages, and upload and organise assets.
  • Guests see only the Works they are invited to. They can upload and modify content there. This is the typical role of a post-production facility.
  • Power Guests see only the Works they are invited to. They can open the content but cannot modify it. They use it to prepare Screening Rooms and Deliveries.

To invite a Guest or a Power Guest to one Work, see Adding Guests to a Work.
