Add a passkey
Add a passkey on your computer or your phone, open Strong Projects with your fingerprint, your face or your PIN, and pair the Gate.

When you sign in with an email link, Google or Apple, your session is basic. You cannot open Strong Projects, and you cannot pair the Gate. A passkey fixes this. It is the fingerprint, the face or the PIN that you already use to unlock your device. You add it one time. After that, one tap gives you a strong session.
Before you start
Make sure that your device has these:
- A recent operating system and browser. See Passkey requirements for the minimum versions.
- A screen lock: a fingerprint, your face, a PIN or a device password.
- A place to keep the passkey, for example iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager or a password manager.
Add a passkey only on a device that you alone use. On a shared computer, sign in with the QR code. Scan it with the Mnemonica app on your phone where biometrics is enabled.
Add the passkey
Web app
Open the security settings
If your account already has a strong method, sign in with it first. Scan the QR code on the sign-in page with the Mnemonica app where biometrics is enabled.
If your account has no strong method, sign in with an email link, Google or Apple.
Open Preferences / Security. Select the Passkeys tab.
Click Add a passkey
Click Add a passkey.
Check the requirements
If your browser does not offer to create a passkey, check your operating system and your browser. See Passkey requirements.
Unlock your device
Your browser asks you to create the passkey. Use the way you unlock your computer: fingerprint, face or PIN.
A computer with no fingerprint reader or face camera asks for another unlock: the Windows Hello PIN, the login password of your Mac, or your password manager. You can also use a USB security key.
The new passkey appears in the Passkeys tab, with the date that you added it.
Mobile app
Open the security settings
Open the Mnemonica app. Open Preferences / Security.
Tap Add a passkey
Tap Add a passkey.
Unlock your phone
Use the way you unlock your phone: fingerprint, face or PIN.
The phone saves the passkey: in iCloud Keychain on an iPhone or iPad, in Google Password Manager on Android.
The app can also offer a passkey after you tap Enable biometrics, as a second strong method. To accept, tap Add a passkey and unlock your phone. We recommend it.
After you add a passkey
The next time that you sign in, click Use passkey on the sign-in page. See Signing in to Mnemonica.
We recommend two strong methods, for example the Mnemonica app on your phone where biometrics is enabled, and a passkey on your computer. If you lose one, sign in with the other. To remove a lost passkey, delete it in the Passkeys tab. If you have no strong device left, read Lost device and reset.
With a strong session, you can pair the Gate. Read Pairing the Gate with browsers.
To use the Mnemonica app on a phone or tablet, link the app first. Then tap Enable biometrics. Read Add a device.
Questions
Your computer or your browser cannot keep a passkey. Check them against Passkey requirements. If you cannot update them, scan the QR code with the Mnemonica app where biometrics is enabled.
Do not save a passkey on it. Click No, others use it too when Mnemonica asks. Each time that you sign in, scan the QR code with the Mnemonica app where biometrics is enabled. You can also use a security key.
A passkey in iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager appears only on devices with the same account, and the sync must be on. See Passkey requirements.
Those apps often open links in their own browser, which cannot use passkeys. Open mnemonica.io in Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
