Somebody invited you to Mnemonica, or your company chose it for a new film, series or archive. You want to know what it is, what to install, and how to keep your access safe. This page tells you, in a few minutes. Each section links to a full article when you need more.
What Mnemonica is
Mnemonica is an online platform to watch, share, send and keep film and TV content. It works in your browser, in an app on your phone or tablet, and with a desktop app for large transfers.
Your work happens inside Projects. A Project is one production or one archive, with its own team and its own guests. In a Project you can:
- Watch and comment on media in Screening Rooms.
- Send and receive files with Boxes, or with Deliveries in an Archive Project.
- Keep a library of finished works, in an Archive Project.
What you can do in a Project depends on your role. See About Roles.
A closed community
Nobody can register on their own: you join Mnemonica only when somebody invites you to a Project. Every person you meet there was invited by a person they work with.
This protects the content. It also means that your account is the door to content that is not released yet. Keep that door locked: the next sections tell you how.
What you need
- An email address that only you read. Mnemonica has no password. Your email address is your username, and an email link can always sign you in. Protect your mailbox well.
- A recent browser. Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Microsoft Edge, on any computer. See System requirements.
- A smartphone with the Mnemonica app. We recommend it to everybody. It is the easiest way to protect your account.
- Mnemonica Gate, only if you transfer large archives. See below.
Your first day
Open the invitation
Open the email on the device that you want to use. Click Join Mnemonica. See Registering your Mnemonica account.
Install the Mnemonica app
Get it from the App Store or Google Play. See Mnemonica Mobile App.
Protect your account
When Mnemonica asks, add a strong method. In the app, tap Enable biometrics. On a computer that only you use, add a passkey.
Add a second strong method
Add a passkey on your computer, or the app on your phone. With two, the loss of one device does not lock you out.
Why a strong method matters
An email link, Google or Apple gives you a basic session. A passkey or the Mnemonica app gives you a strong session: it uses your fingerprint, your face or your PIN.
New Projects are marked Strong by default. They open only to a strong session, so that a person who gets into your email cannot see the content. If you have no strong method, you can see these Projects in your list, but you cannot open them. See Basic and strong sessions.
If you transfer large archives
Your browser is enough to watch, comment, and send or receive a few files. For large archives, nested folders or an unstable network, install Mnemonica Gate on your computer.
The Gate takes the transfer from the browser. It continues after an interruption, and it can download complete Rooms, Boxes and Deliveries with their folders. You can close the browser while it works.
- Install the Gate.
- Pair it with your browser. You need a strong session to do this.
- Keep it updated. The Gate tells you when a new version is available.
Keep your access, day after day
- Use one account for each person. Do not share a login with your team. A shared login cannot open Strong Projects.
- Make each new device strong one time. A device that is already strong approves the new one. See Add a device.
- Lock your phone and your computer with your fingerprint, your face or a PIN. See Security basics.
- Never give a code to anybody. Mnemonica never asks you for one.
- Keep your apps up to date: the browser, the Mnemonica app and the Gate.
- Read the security emails. Mnemonica tells you when something changes on your account.
If you lose a device, sign in with your other strong device and remove the lost one in Preferences / Security. If you have no strong device left, read Lost device and reset.
Do you need help?
Open a support request from the web app or the mobile app. If you cannot sign in, write to support@mnemonica.com.
Linking the Mnemonica app
If you already have a strong session on one device, a new device cannot get strong alone. It needs a six-digit code. This guide shows how to get the code from the web app or from the app on another device.
