Mnemonica has two kinds of session. How you sign in decides which one you get:
- Basic session: you sign in with an email link, Google or Apple. You can work in all Projects that are not marked Strong.
- Strong session: you sign in with a strong method, which is a passkey or the Mnemonica app. You can also open Strong Projects and manage your company.
You do not need a strong session to work in Projects that do not require one.
To sign in, read Signing in to Mnemonica.
What each session lets you do
An email link proves only that you can read the mailbox. Google or Apple proves only that you can open that account. Mnemonica cannot see how well that mailbox or account is protected, so these sessions are basic. A passkey or the Mnemonica app is a proof that Mnemonica checks itself, each time. These sessions are strong.
If you sign in tomorrow with an email link, Google or Apple, you start in a basic session. A strong session you had before does not continue.

Protect your first device
You get strong sessions in two stages. First, you protect your first device, usually when you register. Then that device makes your sessions on other devices strong.
We recommend that you use the Mnemonica app as your key. Your phone is usually with you, and it unlocks with your fingerprint, face or PIN. One scan of a QR code with the app makes a session on any computer strong. The app also alerts you at once if somebody resets your sign-in.
Mnemonica asks you to protect your first device when you register, in the step called Protect your account. See Registering your Mnemonica account.
- In the Mnemonica app (recommended): tap Enable biometrics. Biometrics uses the way you unlock your phone: your fingerprint, your face or your PIN. Your session is strong at once.
- On a computer that only you use: add a passkey.
- On a shared computer: do not add a passkey. Install the Mnemonica app and scan the QR code.
Your first strong method is active at once.
Add your first strong method
If you clicked Later when you registered, do it now. Do this only if your account has no active strong method.
Web app
Sign in
Sign in with an email link, Google or Apple.
Answer the question
Mnemonica asks: Is this your personal computer? Click Yes, only I use it only if nobody else signs in to this computer with your account.
Add the passkey
Click Add a passkey. Use the way you unlock your device: fingerprint, face or PIN.
Your session is strong at once.
On a shared computer, do not add a passkey. Use the QR code of the app, or a security key.
Mobile app
Sign in
Sign in with an email link, Google or Apple.
Enable biometrics
Open a Strong Project, or open Preferences / Security. The app asks you to enable biometrics. Tap Enable biometrics.
Confirm with your device
Use your fingerprint, your face or your PIN.
The app keeps the key that it needs. You cannot see it. Your session is strong at once.
You can connect or disconnect your Google and Apple accounts in the Connected accounts tab of Preferences / Security. Mnemonica sends you an email when you connect one.
Make your other sessions strong
You can be signed in on several devices at the same time, and each device, and each browser, has its own session. When you sign in on another device with an email link, Google or Apple, the session is basic. A strong device that you already have makes it strong. A basic session cannot do this alone. This stops somebody who reads your inbox from adding a device of their own. An email link, Google or Apple never replaces a strong device.
How easy this is depends on the device.
On your phone or tablet
If you enabled biometrics on this device, open the app and unlock it with your fingerprint, face or PIN. The session is strong.
If biometrics is not enabled in the app yet, and your account already has a strong method, use a one-time code:
- In a strong web session, open Preferences / Security. In the API keys and devices tab, click Link the Mnemonica app. Mnemonica shows a one-time code. On a strong phone, open Preferences / Security in the app and tap Link another device.
- In the app on the new device, select I have a code. Type the code. Tap Link this device.
- Make sure that the app shows your name.
- Tap Enable biometrics. Use your fingerprint, face or PIN.
See Add a device.
On a Mac
On a Mac, a passkey works with Touch ID, so this is almost as easy as on a phone.
If you saved a passkey on your iPhone in iCloud Keychain, it can already be on your Mac. You then do not need to do anything: sign in with the passkey.
If not, do this one time:
- Open the sign-in page. Scan the QR code with the Mnemonica app. Your session is strong.
- Mnemonica asks: Is this your personal computer? Click Yes, only I use it.
- Save the passkey with Touch ID. You can keep it in iCloud Keychain or in a password manager such as 1Password or Bitwarden.
The next time, sign in with the passkey.
On a Windows computer
Windows computers are often shared, for example at the office. First, decide if only you use the computer.
If only you use the computer, do this one time:
- Open the sign-in page. Scan the QR code with the Mnemonica app. Your session is strong.
- Mnemonica asks: Is this your personal computer? Click Yes, only I use it.
- Save the passkey with Windows Hello, or in a password manager such as 1Password or Bitwarden.
Windows Hello can use a PIN if the computer has no fingerprint reader or face camera. The next time, sign in with the passkey.
If other people use the computer, read this first:
Do not save a passkey on a shared computer. Other people who sign in to the same Windows account, or who can open its password manager, can use that passkey. They can then open your Strong Projects.
Then, each time that you sign in:
- Open the sign-in page. Scan the QR code with the Mnemonica app. Your session is strong.
- Mnemonica asks: Is this your personal computer? Click No, others use it too. Mnemonica saves nothing on the computer.
You can also use a security key instead of the app.
For all the routes, for example an iPad from your iPhone, see Add a device.
If you lose a device
The right action depends on what you still have.
- You have another strong device. You do not need a reset. Sign in with that device. Then remove the lost device in Preferences / Security. For a computer, delete its passkey in the Passkeys tab. For a phone, revoke its key in the API keys and devices tab.
- You have no strong device. You can sign in with an email link, Google or Apple, but only with a basic session. A basic session cannot remove one lost device or add a new one. Start a reset. Read Lost device and reset.
A reset removes all your strong methods and API keys at once. It also unlinks Google and Apple, and ends your sessions on every other device. For the next 24 hours, you can use basic sessions only. After 24 hours, you can add a brand new strong method.
We recommend two strong methods: the Mnemonica app on your phone and a passkey on your computer.
Questions
This is correct: there is no password field. Type your email address and continue. The link arrives in a few seconds.
If you added a passkey, or linked Google or Apple, the page shows these methods first.
- Look in your spam folder.
- Make sure that you typed the address of your Mnemonica account. For privacy, the page always says "check your inbox", even when it does not know the address.
- Ask for a new link on the same screen.
If the email still does not arrive, your Company Administrator can check the address that Mnemonica has for you. If you have a strong method, sign in with it. You do not need the email.
This is correct. The session starts where you open the link, so your phone is signed in. To sign in on the computer, open the email on the computer, or use your passkey.
No, it is more secure. There is no secret that a fake website can make you type, and no code that an attacker can ask you to read out.
A passkey is stronger again. It works only on the real Mnemonica site, and the important part never leaves your device.
Not always. In Projects that are not marked Strong, an email link, Google or Apple is enough.
For Strong Projects and company pages, you need a strong method. A passkey is the easiest. The other strong method is the Mnemonica app: on your phone, or to scan the QR code on a computer.
The Project is marked Strong, and your session is basic. Sign in with your passkey, or approve with the Mnemonica app. The Project then opens.
If your account has no strong method, add one when Mnemonica offers it. If your account has one that you can no longer use, read Lost device and reset.
Google and Apple tell Mnemonica that somebody signed in to that account, but not how. A second step in that account is the owner's choice, and Mnemonica cannot see if it was used. So Google and Apple count as an email link.
Add a passkey or enable biometrics in the app one time, and you get both: one tap and a strong session.
Use the Mnemonica app. Scan the QR code with it, as before: you get a strong session. The way you unlock your phone (fingerprint, face or PIN) makes it strong.
If you cannot use the app either, the email link always gets you in. Your session stays basic until you have a strong method.
Android restores your sign-in when you change phone, so you do not have to start again. But nobody confirmed the sign-in on the new phone, so the session is basic. Use your passkey or biometrics in the app one time, and the session is strong.
You do not need it. A passkey can be on the computer that you use, or in your password manager. Your phone is one option, not a requirement.
A shared login can still sign in with the email link, in a basic session. But a passkey belongs to one person and one device. So a shared login cannot open Strong Projects or company pages.
Ask your Company Administrator to make one account for each person. Each person keeps the same access. Keep the shared inbox for email. If you need help, write to support@mnemonica.com before 17 October 2026.
