This article is for Team Members who set up and manage an Ingest Room. If you are a Guest and you want to upload your content, read Submitting content to an Ingest Room.
When to use an Ingest Room
Ingest Rooms collect a defined number of files from Guests. Team Members have full access to the content of Ingest Rooms. Unlike in other types of Rooms, Team Members cannot upload content to them. Only a Manager can invite Guests, add uploading slots and reset them.
Common uses of an Ingest Room:
- Collecting casting submissions
- Collecting footage for collective films
- Festival submissions
Use an Ingest Room when you need to collect much media from several people outside your working team.
Control an Ingest Room with an API
You can control Ingest Rooms with an API. With the API, a form that you create can gather data from anyone and send it to Mnemonica through a registered user of your company.
Mnemonica puts the data in the available fields, for example Bin and media names, Bin and media tags, and notes. The API can also set the number of uploading slots for the Guests.
To get the API documentation, contact support@mnemonica.com.
How they work
Ingest Rooms use Bins to provide reserved spaces for Guests to upload files. When you invite a Guest to an Ingest Room, Mnemonica creates the related Bin. The Bin carries the Guest's email address as its name. Then a Manager must add one or more uploading slots to let the Guest upload files to the Room.
You cannot create Bins directly from the Bins panel. To create a Bin, go to Guests management and invite a Guest.
An Ingest Room can have as many Guests as needed. Guests do not see each other or the content of other Guests.
Bins and Guests have a one-to-one relationship. If you remove one, Mnemonica automatically removes the other, including any uploaded files.
Uploading slots
An uploading slot is a placeholder where a Guest can upload a file. Each Bin can have one or more uploading slots.
Mnemonica creates a new Room disabled. Like other Screening Rooms, an Ingest Room must be enabled to let Guests in.
To add an uploading slot, follow these steps.
Find the Bin
In the Bins panel, find the Bin of the Guest.
Add the slot
Click the options button (⋮) of the Bin and select Add uploading slot.
Name the slot
In the dialog, enter a name. It becomes the media name in the Media Pool. If needed, add Tags.
After you add the slot, the slot placeholder appears in the Media Pool. Mnemonica sends the Guest a notification that an uploading slot is available.
Resetting a slot
When a Guest completes an upload, the uploading slot locks, and you receive a notification. A Guest cannot unlock the slot. If a Guest must upload again, a Manager resets the slot.
To reset the slot, follow these steps.
Find the media
Find the uploaded media in the Media Pool.
Reset the slot
Click the options button (⋮) of the media and select Reset.
Confirm
In the Reset slot? dialog, click Reset.
Mnemonica removes the uploaded file. The slot is ready for a new upload.
Actions that are not available
Ingest Rooms do not allow these actions:
- Posting comments and replies.
- Moving and copying media between the Bins of the Room itself.
