The Player page is where you screen video, audio, and still images and comment on them. Every user who has access to a Screening Room can use it.

Opening the Player page

In a Room, do one of these to open the Player page:

  • Double-click the media thumbnail.
  • Click the name of the media you want to screen.
  • Click the Play button in the footer of the Media Pool.

Mnemonica always brings all the Media Pool content from the Room to the Player page and lists it in the playlist sidebar. This is true if you play a single clip or use the Play button.

On the Player page you can find:

  • The multimedia player.
  • The playlist sidebar on the left. It can be collapsed.
  • The comment bar under the player.
  • The right sidebar, which can contain:

The player

The player supports video, audio, and pictures. Use the keyboard shortcuts for the most common operations:

KeyAction
Spacebar, K, LPlay or pause
FGo to fullscreen
GSkip to the previous thread
HSkip to the next thread
NSkip 10 seconds forward
BSkip 10 seconds backward
Left arrowGo to the previous frame
Right arrowGo to the next frame
Up arrowSkip to the previous clip
Down arrowSkip to the next clip

Besides the player commands, you can find the AUTOPLAY switch. When you turn it on, the player plays the media in sequence.

Below the playhead, a green bar shows which portions of the video or audio clip the current user has screened.

Dots just above the player controls show the comments posted over time. Depending on the media length, one dot can represent more than one comment. To show the overlapping comments, click the dot. In the pop-up, select the thread you want to focus on.

The playlist sidebar

The playlist on the left side of the page shows the media list of the Media Pool it comes from.

If your browser viewport is small, the playlist can collapse. To maximize it, click the light blue maximize button on the left margin of the page.

You can filter and sort the playlist as needed.

The comments feed tab

The comments feed is on the right sidebar. It carries all the threads and replies of the Room's audience. The Room's audience shows above the comments feed, so you always know who can read and write comments.

To search in threads and replies, use the text search filter on the toolbar.

The comment bar

The comment bar is under the player. Use it to write a comment and to draw on a picture or on a frame of a video clip. From left to right, it shows:

  • The stopwatch. When it is on, the comment refers to the current frame. When it is off, the bar shows Entire clip and the comment refers to the whole clip.
  • The position of the player, when the stopwatch is on. To go to a frame, click the position and type its timecode.
  • The position format arrow. Click it to select Timecode or Frame #.
  • The Comment… field.
  • The send button.

Under the bar, two buttons change how you comment:

  • The brush button (Draw on frame) opens the drawing tools.
  • The pause button (Pause while typing) pauses the video while you type.

To learn how to post, draw and reply, read Comment on media.
